A drunk driver who crashed her car twice in two days in the same street while already being disqualified from driving has now been banned from the roads for five years.

Michelle Beauvois was arrested at just before 10am on June 2 after she crashed her car into another vehicle in South Street, Lancing.

The 47-year-old admitted to officers that she had been drinking who later discovered that she had been banned from the roads for five years in 2010 in Guernsey but had continued to drive on British roads.

Despite her lucky escape, the next day she was arrested again after she crashed while drink-driving at three times the limit at 2pm in the same street.

Beauvois, of Brighton Road in Lancing, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.

She has now been banned from driving for five years, given an 80-day suspended prison sentence, ordered to attend an alcohol addiction course and will have to follow a three-month curfew.

Beauvois is among 82 people who have now been convicted of offences after being arrested in June as part of Operation Dragonfly, the force's crackdown on drink and drug driving.

They include James Bailey who was arrested at 11.40pm on June 5 after officers were tipped off that he was very drunk and driving in Worthing without his lights on.

Officers went to his home in Kithurst Close in Worthing and found the 47-year-old sitting in the driver's seat of his car.

When they opened the door they had to catch Bailey to stop him falling out.

Bailey has now pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen and failing to answer bail and has now been banned from driving for three years, fined £300 as well as having to pay £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Superintendent Jane Derrick said: "It is very concerning when we find people, who have been convicted of drink-driving, drunk at the wheel again.

"The message is obviously not getting through to everyone that every time you drink and then drive you risk not only your life and the lives of others but also your licence, your livelihood and even your liberty.

"Fortunately in this case Beauvois did not hurt anyone before we arrested her but either of her accidents in June could have been far more serious."
