MORE than 8,000 youngsters will take to the county’s parks in a geographical project.

The event aims to keep kids active, and one group were joined by Sussex MP Caroline Lucas.

The fourth edition of the highly popular Run the World takes to the parks over the next two weeks, which started at Preston Park in Brighton on Wednesday morning.

Green MP for Brighton Pavilion Caroline Lucas joined the scores of junior joggers and cheered them on around the track along with Brighton and Hove Mayor Brian Fitch and his wife Norah.

The aim of the event is to add together all the kilometres covered and match them with a geographical distance.

In the first year the children ran the equivalent distance of Brighton to Bamako, the capital of Mali, a total of 4,200km.

This year they will be running the distance of Hanoi to Sydney, 7,747km.

The event will be at Hove Park in Hove on Thursday before heading to Worthing’s Homefield Park on Friday.

Don’t miss Youth in Action next Wednesday for more pictures and a special report on the project’s progress.
