Danny Bhoy exuded confidence as he stepped onto the stage at The Old Market – on tour with Please Untick This Box, a show which niggled at the modern pre-occupation with data and poked fun at the luxurious end of culture – canapes at parties and Michelin dining.

As he explained to the audience, Danny Bhoy conceived this show for a set of charity performances, and so is stripped of any set around him.

Unfortunately he had also stripped back his material to a set of finely-tuned observations, which whilst undeniably funny lacked a through narrative or clear theme.

The audience were rowdy, with heckles towards the end of the first half halting the flow of Bhoy's anecdotes. A clearer narrative structure could have helped Bhoy to pull them back into the show with more ease.

Bhoy is a skilled comedian and extremely watchable, but his unawareness of the Brighton/Hove antagonism might have caused the oppositional feeling, along with a petulant tone to his refusal to participate in the circus of modern day expectations.
