Three tiny kittens were found dumped in a toilet cubicle.

The eight week old tabbies were discovered huddled together terrified in the corner of the toilets by staff at Worthing station.

The staff took them into the station's office to warm and feed them before calling the RSPCA.

The cats, named Lulu, Boggy and Flush, were in a poor state but were taken by the RSPCA inspector to be nursed back to health.

Station master Jim Cumming said: “It was a bit of a surprise find these poor little things cowered in the corner of the toilet that morning.

“They were huddled up so tightly together that they were easy to miss, and I don't know how many people may have walked past them without noticing them. At least no-one hurt them or stepped on them or anything.

“It caused quite a stir that morning. We had them all in the office trying to warm them up a bit, which was lovely. Although quite shocking to us all that someone could have just left them to fend for themselves in this way.”

The cats recovered their strength and have now been rehomed, but the RSPCA are appealing for anyone with information about how they were dumped on September 25 to come forward.

RSPCA animal welfare officer, Marie Stevens, said: “Had they not been found when they were who knows what would have happened - we are so grateful to the station staff for the care they showed these little animals.

“They are simply too young and too small to survive on their own in this way, especially running loose so near on a train station platform. There was not even a box to protect them or give them a place to hide themselves in.

“We urge anyone with any information about how they came to be dumped like this to contact us on 0300 1234 999.”
