TRAVELLERS have moved on to a public space.

Black Rock car park on Brighton seafront near the marina is the latest site to be encroached on.

It is thought the first vehicles arrived yesterday.

One onlooker saw 14 caravans and other vehicles on the site at 7.30am today.

Brighton and Hove City Council officers have visited the site with the police, and carried out statutory checks.

The travellers have been told they are trespassing on council-owned land and have been asked to leave.

The council has instructed its legal team to apply to the county court for a possession order to get the land back.

It hopes to evict the group “as soon as practicable, should the families fail to leave the site voluntarily”.

A group of van-dwellers and gypsies are also on land in Coldean Woods.

The council has told them they are trespassing on council-owned land and applied for a possession order.

Travellers which were on Waterhall left this morning after police issued a Section 61 in relation to two sporting events being held this weekend.

It is believed four vehicles left the city and the remainder, about five vehicles, travelled to Black Rock.
