WOULD-BE robbers punched and kicked a man in the eye – fracturing his socket – before a passing motorist disturbed them.
Detectives are hoping to speak to a driving who travelled along Cavell Way, Maidenbower, Crawley on Tuesday, October 7, at 1.30am.
A police spokesman said: “Three young men were walking along the road when they were approached by four other men, described as in their late teens, and wearing either plain black or white masks.
“They demanded the contents of the young mens' pockets and punched and kicked one of them in the head and body. He suffered a fractured eye socket as well as cuts and bruising.
“It is believed the suspects were seen just before the incident driving nearby in a silver car, possibly a VW Golf.
“The attack ended because the would-be robbers were distracted by a passing vehicle, and nothing was stolen.”
Detective Constable Mike George appealed for anyone with information to call 101@sussex.pnn. police.uk, or call 101, quoting 67 of 7/10 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
