BRIGHTON has been named as runner-up in the search for the country’s best city for curry.

Bradford topped the list for the fourth year running with Birmingham third.

The Curry Capital of Britain competition is held annually as part of National Curry Week.

Brighton jumped an impressive 11 places from last year’s list to narrowly miss out on the top spot.

Nick Harvey, founder of the Brighton Business Curry Club, said the ranking was deserved.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted, it is a super award which further positions Brighton on the map as one of the culinary hotbeds in the UK at the moment.

“From the new kids on the block this year we have the Curry Leaf Cafe which brings you southern Indian street food combined with craft beers.

“Then on the other hand we have stalwarts like Indian Summer, Chilli Pickle and one of our favourites the Eastern Eye in London Road.”

Completing the top ten were Leicester, Leeds, Cardiff, London South, Nottingham, London East and Edinburgh.
