TWO Brighton restaurants have been named among the best in the country.

Terre à Terre, in East Street, and 24 St Georges, in St George’s Road, were both named as runners-up for the title of the country’s best restaurant in the Observer Food Awards – voted for by the public.

Terre à Terre was also named as a runner-up in the best ethical restaurant category – which also starred their vegetarian neighbours in The Lanes Food For Friends, in Prince Albert Street, and Moose’s Kitchen, in Kings Road, St Leonards. Infinity foods, in North Road and hiSbe, in York Place, were named runners-up among the best independent retailers.

Hotel du Vin, in Ship Street, Brighton, and the Crabtree, in Lower Beeding, were named as runners-up in the best Sunday lunch category.

The Black Dove, in St James’s Street, Brighton, was a runner-up in the best places to drink category.

Co-director of Terre à Terre Philip Taylor said: “We at Terre à Terre love a public vote, customers are what it’s all about from beginning to end. It’s a great honour to be runner-up in both of these fine categories and for Brighton to feature year after year.”
