A 67-year-old man died after being seriously injured in a head-on car crash.

The man was originally thought to have died from a heart attack but police said today he in fact died from multiple injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash at 12.55pm on Tuesday (October 21) on the A29 Lidsey Road, north of the Robin Hood pub and close to Lidsey Caravan Park.

The 67-year-old, from Hunston, near Chichester, was driving a Reliant Robin which crashed head-on with a red Nissan Primera.

The driver of the Nissan, a 65-year-old man from Chichester, was taken to St Richard's Hospital with serious injuries.

Sergeant Tony Crisp said: "The 67-year-old man sadly died of multiple injuries, not a heart attack.

“We are appealing to anyone who was driving along the road at the time and saw what happened to please get in contact on collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Op Claygate.

“Members of public are thanked for their patience while the road was closed."
