Venues all over Brighton helped Oxfam smash its target of £6,000 in the city for funds raised through Oxjam Takeover events.

The team is still tallying up the totals from the sponsored gigs but Caroline Waters, an Oxjam volunteer confirmed the result via Facebook.

Miss Waters said: “I'm happy to announce that Brighton hit their target for the first time ever and not only that, have managed to raise more than the total combined of every Takeover that has happened here before.”

Now in its ninth year the festival looks for passionate music lovers to put on gigs in the community to raise money for charity.

Jackie Chase is the owner of Under The Bridge Studio and booked seven bands to play in her rehearsal space for Oxfam.

Mrs Chase said: “This is our third year and it just gets bigger and better.

"Town of Cats took the roof off tonight and demonstrated what the maximum number of people is you can get jumping up and down in one building. It was hot and enormous fun.”

Children, teenagers and adults filled the lounge sized room to support the charity and watch the line-up of bands. Many of which are regulars for rehearsals and recordings.

One of the acts was the Croque Monsieurs who were playing their second show as a band at the charity event.

Frontman Danny Curtis said “I was really pleased with the turn out and I hope Jackie was too, given all the hard work she’s put into tonight.

"She is a total legend in the Brighton band scene and everyone who’s in a band knows her, so it was a real honour to be asked to play for such a good cause.”

The Oxjam team have planned celebrations on Thursday, October 30 October at Envy. Details can be found on their Facebook page.
