A rare albino hedgehog and an “unprecedented” tiny baby are just two of the 14 spiky critters being cared for at an animal rescue centre.

The hedgehogs have been taken in by Roger’s Wildlife Rescue, Woodingdean, Brighton, were found underweight and will be most likely kept at the centre until the spring.

Roger Musselle, who runs the centre with his wife Fleur, said: “A baby this small in November is quite unprecedented and shows the importance of checking any bonfire and perhaps remaking it in a different place on the day to avoid roasting any creatures that are using it as home. The little orphan will have to be kept warm all winter and fed up to put on weight and will be released in the spring.”

The wildlife rescue is currently looking after 14 young hedgehogs along with a fox being treated for mange, a badger with wounds from fighting and a tawny owl that was injured in an accident with traffic.
