An optician is helping pupils stay safe by donating high visibility vests to local schools.

Specsavers, in Broad Street, Seaford, gave nearly 200 vests to children at Seaford Primary School, Chyngton Primary School and Cradle Hill Primary School to promote safety at night during Road Safety Week.

Pictured are pupils at Seaford Primary School, and Jon Reynard, headteacher, said the school is “very grateful”. “They will be put to good use,” he said.

“The safety of our pupils is one of our top priorities. These vests will allow the children to walk safely in the dark, as well as be visible to cars on outings and school trips.”

Road Safety Week is an initiative run by the road safety charity Brake.

Martin East, Specsavers’ store director, said: “We want to make sure that children are safe and visible at night as winter is fast approaching.

“Since the clocks have changed and nights have got darker, we hope our donation will help keep parents’ minds at ease when they’re escorting their children to and from school.”
