A PLAQUE has been unveiled at the former tennis club of an Argus Achievement Award (AAA) winner.

David Hills, from Hove, died suddenly in September aged 78.

He won the AAA in 2012 after saving the life of a stranger who collapsed at the Sussex County Lawn Tennis Club in Southwick. Mr Hills was also something of a community champion, volunteering his time to help at The Samaritans and Boy’s Brigade. The plaque was unveiled by his wife Jan, above the door of the tennis club in Kingston Lane.

It read “Play Shall Be Continuous” which was one of his well known phrases.

Friend and fellow tennis club member, David Dunstall, said: “It was a really good morning, we had lots of people come down and there were refreshments afterwards.

“We actually had John, who David saved, there for the unveiling which was a surprise for his wife Jan.

“He will be missed.”

The club is raising money for a defibrillator in his memory. Donations can be sent to the club at 104 Kingston Lane, Shoreham, BN43 6YQ. Cheques should be made payable to Sussex County Lawn Tennis Club.
