Residents have just one day to help a seafront attraction win £50,000.

Saltdean Lido is competing against a wildlife charity from Reading to win £50,000 on day one of the Big Lottery Fund and ITV’s People’s Millions competitions.

Residents have only today to ring up and vote for the lido, which is hoping to use the money to open up the children’s paddling pool at the site in time for next summer.

If successful, the lido will follow in the footsteps of Brighton’s Exeter Street Hall, which won funding from the competition last year.

Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby is encouraging as many people as possible to vote on the day between 9am and midnight, saying that “every vote really does count”.

On Wednesday, it will be the turn of Crawley Capers to compete for the £50,000.

The football-based par tnership between the Crawley Town FC Community Spor ts Foundation and Autism Sussex is looking for more money to expand the programme.

The winner with the most phone votes between 9am and midnight today will win the money with residents urged to call 09015 228205 (landline) and 6228205 (mobile).

Participants can vote ten times from each device at 15p a call.
