Police Academy – for minors A SCHOOL was officially opened yesterday with an assembly for its children.

Hove Junior School has expanded into a former police station in Holland Road, Hove.

The school, which teaches 512 children at its Portland Road site, saw 75 children start in its current Year 3 class in September.

As each subsequent academic year begins, new children will be incorporated into the school.

Officials from Brighton and Hove City Council, including chief executive Penny Thompson, watched the Christmas singing assembly, which took place at 1.45pm.

Inspector Jason Hazzard of Sussex Police, who closed Hove Police Station, gave a talk and slide show to the pupils covering the building’s history.

Headteacher Janis Taylor said: “I think the pupils are really lucky. It’s fabulous. They are coming into a lovely building and the staff are really enthusiastic. We are really pleased with the building.”
