THIEVES stole at least £400 when they trashed a charity shop.

Staff most of whom are volunteers, were shocked to arrive at work this morning to find the stock and money missing and the British Red Cross shop on London Road, Brighton, vandalised, police said.

The burglars broke in between 6.30pm yesterday and 8.30am today.

PC Samantha Candy said: "This was a truly saddening incident, particularly at Christmas time when charities such as the Red Cross are working so hard to help needy people.

"It's been a real setback for the shop and I hope anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has other information about this burglary will come forward and help us to identify the offenders."
