SCHOOLCHILDREN filled more than 80 packages with food for needy families. Pupils at Blatchington Mill School and Sixth Form College were given a list of items to fill each food box with.
The boxes were then passed on to The Purple People Foodbank in Portslade, which plans to hand them to struggling families.
As well as the list of items, pupils were encouraged to donate sweets and chocolate as well as soap and toothpaste.
Jacqui O’Rourke, chairwoman of the foodbank, expressed how much it meant to the charity.
She said: “This will help tremendously the homeless and families who are struggling over the Christmas period.”
A spokeswoman for the school said it was “an absolutely phenomenal effort,” built on thousands of small donations.
“We are exceptionally proud of the response from our students and staff,” she added.
