A hospital trust has apologised to patients after medical equipment which had not been correctly sterilised was used during surgery.

The Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has told 27 patients that it is reviewing its policies after carrying out surgical operations on them last month with medical equipment that was not correctly sterilised.

The trust said the risk of patients developing an infection from their treatment at the East Grinstead hospital was low after the instruments were decontaminated but not sterilised in a pressure chamber.

Any patients with concerns should contact the trust on 01342 414000.
