Police officers had to drivea group of teenagers home after a parent who came to pick them up was arrested for drink-driving.

Road Policing officers drove home the teenagers after the parent coming to pick them up was arrested at a police check in Storrington on Saturday night.

Two drivers were arrested in just 15 minutes during the police vehicle checks in Thakeham Road, Storrington, on Saturday evening which was attended by Chief Constable Giles York.

Nina Fowkes was arrested at 10.15pm after a routine stop check found that she had consumed alcohol.

The 49-year-old, of Monkmead Lane in West Chiltington, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on January 5.

Fifteen minutes earlier, Luke Appletonwas arrested at 10 pm after a routine stop check and officers then suspected that he had consumed alcohol.

The 26-year-old, of Cricketers Close in Ashington, was charged with drink-driving, as well as driving without insurance, and other document offences.

He is due to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on January 2.

At 10.30 pm, officers stopped a 19-year-old male driver and found him to be in possession of cannabis.

Officers completed a field impairment test with the driver, who was found not to be impaired, so he was issued with a street caution for the drugs offence.

Sergeant Rob Baldwin, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "Despite repeated warnings about the dangers of drink and drug driving and the devastation it can cause, it is disappointing that people still choose to risk their own lives and put other people in danger.

"We will be continuing to make our roads safer by seeking out and prosecuting those drivers who choose to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.”
