Users of a food bank were treated to a Christmas lunch when they collected their weekly allowance.

The Purple People Kitchen food bank in Portslade Town Hall threw the festive bash.

Ann Mehinick, from the food bank, said: “The clients collected their own weekly food allowance, then had a raffle ticket for a free tombola.

“There was one gift per person plus gifts for all of their children. All of the gifts had been donated by local people.

“I told them of the generosity which had enabled us to provide all the wonderful things. Many of the recipients were very emotional when they saw the prizes.

“After they had collected their prizes they were then given a large Santa sack with enough food and seasonal treats to get them through next week. It was a truly fantastic day.”

Ms Mehinick said she wanted to thank St Nicolas School, Blatchington Mill School, The Hove Lions, Clamp and Boxall, Vantage House, The Health Food Shop and Hair Scene – all from Boundary Road in Portslade – for their genorosity and help.

She added: “We also had anonymous donations from local people who dropped off food.

“The Christmas Spirit is alive and well in Portslade.”
