Police picked up a Polish man walking along the A23 who had bet his father he could get from London to Brighton quicker than him.

The man was spotted by members of the public on the major A-road in the early hours of this morning.

Officers from Sussex Police's central road's policing team were deployed to find the man and located him at Hickstead.

When they picked him up, the man told officers he had a bet with his father that he could get to Brighton quicker than him and the prize for the winner was a car.

The man told officers that he had set out from north west London at 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Officers said his father had planned to catch a train, however there are no services today.

The man was dropped off in Patcham, Brighton and left to make his own way to Brighton Pier to complete the challenge.
