A FIRE in a log burner led to an elderly woman being treated by ambulance staff.

Firefighters from Bexhill and Herstmonceux were called to Hooe Road in the village of Ninfield, about four miles north of Bexhill at 3.50pm today.

The blaze spread to logs next to the burner.

After it was put out, firefighters used a fan to vent out the property.

The woman was treated by ambulance staff for smoke inhalation but was not taken to hospital.

About 20 minutes earlier, a few miles east in Westfield, north of Hastings, a wooden cabin with people living in it caught fire.

Two fire engines from Hastings raced to the blaze in Westfield Lane, Westfield.

The fire was in the roof of the building and firefighters used a hose reel and ladder to put it out.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said there were no details of how the fire started but that investigations were ongoing.
