HERE’S a big bird that was happy it was Christmas – so he could help to provide a treat for more than 80 children with disabilities and their families.

Gully got in the festive spirit as the host of a special event for youngsters at the American Express Community Stadium on Monday.

The Gully’s Community Christmas Party was organised by Albion In The Community, the charitable arm of Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.

Staff from the charity’s corporate partner, American Express, gave up their time to volunteer on the day.

Children were welcomed by the club mascot and had the opportunity to meet Santa, have their faces painted, try out circus skills and don fancy dress for a souvenir photo at the selfie station.

Michael Edwards, chief executive of Albion In The Community, said: “This year, hundreds of children with disabilities and their families have been able to enjoy the benefits of our Gully’s Days Out programme, providing them with an opportunity to visit some of the best attractions across Sussex with support from volunteers.

“The Christmas party is the perfect way to bring everyone together, including our volunteers from American Express, to celebrate.”
