PLANS to convert an historic landmark into a multi-screen cinema and shops have been shelved, a campaign group said.
Entertainment company Vue wrote to the Save Our Hippodrome group confirming plans to convert the Grade II* listed building in Middle Street will not be pursued by the landlord, and therefore a cinema would not be built.
The news came as the group and supporters filmed a campaign video to tell people about the historical importance of the building and why it would work best as a theatre.
