AN MP has called on the Government to put more pressure on rail companies to improve their services after inviting a transport minister to visit his constituency.
Simon Kirby welcomed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport Claire Perry to Brighton Station to discuss rail fares, service reliability, wi-fi on trains and paperless ticket technologies.
Mr Kirby said he brought the rail minister to Brighton on Friday to discuss the service that many of his constituents receive and highlight their concerns about fares and the poor reliability of the service.
The Brighton Kemptown MP said: “I hope that in response to this meeting, there will be a stronger push from the Government to the rail companies to improve their reliability and delay repay services, also that we will see a step towards the introduction of wi-fi on trains in the near future and that ticket machines will become more user-friendly, making sure rail users always receive the best value for money.”
Mrs Perry said: “The level of rail service is clearly an important issue here and Simon has made me fully aware of his constituents’ views.
“I understand the concerns that they have over the increases in fares and the reliability of their services, in particular the 7:29 morning service.”
