SIX fire engines and dozens of firefighters battled a blaze at a prep school into the early hours of this morning.

Crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at Westbourne House School, Chichester, to reports of a fire in the pre-prep building.

The operation was escalated when they arrived just after 10.20pm last night and crews are still on the scene this morning.

The school, just off the Arundel Road, charges up to £6,470 a term for boarding but a spokeswoman for the fire service said no one had to be evacuated and the building was “unoccupied”.
