Police are hunting three gunmen after a man was shot at his home. 

Three men went to the victim's home in Elmore Road, Brighton, just after 11pm and fired a single shotgun blast through the door, wounding the 39-year-old man. 

Armed officers were deployed but the suspects had fled. 

The victim is still being treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital

A neighbour living above the victim's flat said: "I am terrified. I can't even tell my family, or they won't want me living here anymore. 

"I'm scared to go out." 

Samantha Keywood who lives opposite heard the gun shot. 

She said: "I heard a bang at around 11pm. 

"I didn't see anyone and we stayed shut up inside because we've got kids in the house.

"The police were here within a few minutes."

Another Elmore Road resident Elise Murrell said: "The police are here all the tme.

"There are always disturbances and it is always the same two flats."

Detective Inspector Steve Warner, of Brighton CID, said: "We believe this to be an isolated incident and would seek to reassure people in the area that they should not be alarmed.

"Officers have been working throughout the night to follow up several leads which may help us identify those responsible for this attack "

Sussex Police said they believed the incident was a targetted attack.

Police said house-to-house enquiries were being conducted and called for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity, vehicles or people in Elmore Road to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Kenton.
