The House of Lords speaker Baroness D’Souza will visit Brighton today to speak about the role of the Lords and how young people can become more involved with politics.
She will first visit St Luke’s Church in Old Shoreham Road, which runs a debt advice service, to chair a discussion about the House of Lords’ expertise in consumer rights and debt advice and how campaigners can engage with the Lords.
Baroness D’Souza will then give a lecture at Brighton College about the role and work of the House of Lords, and how students can get more engaged with politics.
She said: “I welcome the opportunity to help people understand how they can better engage with Members of the House on issues that are close to their heart, particularly in a year when we have had some passionate debates in the chamber on issues such as payday loans.
“And as well as the opportunity to talk to the group at St Luke’s Church, I am looking forward especially to speaking to the young people in Brighton College about the Lords, and to remind them that there are two Houses of Parliament.”
