THESE are the first images of how a landmark Worthing site could be transformed.

Roffey Homes has unveiled plans to build a ten-storey block of flats at the site of the much-loved and unusual Dolphin Lodge in Grand Avenue, Worthing.

The Worthing-based developers, who are also behind plans for a 21-storey tower on the Aquarena site in the town, said its “high-quality redevelopment” of the seafront site will create 36 homes.

The proposed designs are clad in two alternative bricks with white render, with designers taking inspiration from the pebbles on the nearby beach for the colours.

Developers say the scheme will be surrounded by high quality landscaped gardens while they will also pay for renovating and upgrading the promenade area at the end of Grand Avenue.

The existing buildings on the site are a curious mix of styles and date back to ambitious plans in 1893 to build a Hotel Metropole and a second pier which were never completed.

A Roffey Homes spokesman said: “The aspiration has been to provide a new building which positively marks the location of and provides a frame to the end of Grand Avenue, in a similar way to Marine Point, whilst enhancing the architectural quality of the seafront more generally.”
