The funeral for a D-Day hero and his wife has been held today.
The service for Bernard Jordan, who shot to fame when he left his nursing home to attend a Normandy tribute, combined with his recently-departed wife Irene, took place at St Michael and All Angels Church in Victoria Road, Brighton just after 11.30am.
The mayor of Brighton and Hove, Brian Fitch, was in attendance along with members from the Royal British Legion, who carried their colours as they entered the church.
The coffins arrived in matching hearses and police closed the road for the duration of the service.
The public service is followed by a private committal elsewhere in the city, where the couple will be cremated together.
The Argus reported earlier this week that the couple left £600,000 to the RNLI in their will.
