A fire broke out at the immigration detention centre based at Gatwick Airport.

Four engines from West Sussex Fire and Rescue are on the scene tending to a blaze at the Brook House Immigration Removal Centre.

The fire was put out by staff and firefighters using breathing appartus arrived on the scene.

Brook House opened in March 2009 and is located on the south perimeter of Gatwick Airport.

It has the capacity to hold 426 men, divided in to four separate wings, and detains illegal immigrants set for deportation.

It is unclear whether the fire was accidental or deliberate and there are currently no reports of injuries.
