A gang of burglars forced the way through the front door of a couple's home demanding money and attacking them.

At 11.15pm on Thursday (5 February) police were called to the address in Nutley Avenue, East Saltdean, after several men had forced their way into the house through the front door, threatened and assaulted the man and woman living there, both aged 52, and demanded cash but nothing was taken.

The man and woman were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. The man was treated for facial cuts and the woman was treated for a minor head injury. Both were later discharged.

One of the suspects is believed to have carried a long barrelled shotgun which was not fired.

The victims are believed to be putting up a significant reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Detective Inspector Gavin Patch said: "We believe this was not a random attack, and it was certainly an isolated incident for the area.
