A RESIDENT has registered new traffic-calming measure as “dangerous obstacles in the road” to the council.
Black plant pots have been placed in Viaduct Road, Brighton, by the city council in a bid to slow the estimated 7,500 vehicles a day that fail to comply with the 20mph speed limit.
However, the move has been met with anger by motorists who claim the pots are dangerous and now a resident has officially raised a complaint with the council via the Fix My Street website.
Labour group leader Warren Morgan also criticised the council for spending money on lines and signs rather than investing in physical calming measures.
Councillor Morgan added: “This measure was not scrutinised or approved at any committee, and the fact that the Greens are resorting to DIY traffic calming suggests that their rushed and costly 20mph programme isn’t having the desired effect.
“We need to manage traffic, but in a professional and managed way.”
The council road safety department explained to The Argus yesterday that the plants would help to signal to motorists they were in a residential area.
