A CAMPAIGNER is flagging up the dire problem of dog mess in his park.

Nick Lewry has become so frustrated with dog owners failing to pick up their pet’s droppings in Hangleton Park he has taken a novel approach to highlight the problem and shame irresponsible owners.

Mr Lewry, chairman of the Friends of Hangleton Park and running to as Conservative councillor for Hangleton and Knoll, has stuck pink flags in dog mess around the park.

He got the idea after speaking with council dog wardens who said a similar scheme was achieving success in East Brighton.

He said: “It was a problem that I thought we had under control, but this winter it seems to be worse than ever. I was given 35 flags and within 20 minutes I had used them all up.

“If I had double it wouldn’t have been enough.

“We have a play bus that comes to the park every Thursday and they come early to put soil over the dirt and have started putting their own posters up around the park with pictures of a child with dog mess around their mouth.”

Councillor Dawn Barnett is backing the initiative and has asked for residents to take pictures of dog fouling offenders so that they can be fined for their misdemeanours.
