A FORMER star of the TV show Gogglebox is auctioning off a night out with her for charity.

Alex Michael, who was on the Channel 4 programme for four series, is offering one lucky young man the chance to take her to a show and dinner in aid of Raleigh International.

The 24-year-old, from Brighton, is known for her appearances alongside father Andrew, mum Carolyne and brother Louis on the Bafta winning show.

But despite being one of the most popular families on the show, the Michaels were kicked off in December after dad Andrew announced he was standing as a UKIP candidate in the Hastings and Rye constituency.

Alex has used her extra spare time to concentrate on her charity work and has raised cash by running the Brighton Half Marathon, holding poker nights and baking hundreds of muffins and cakes to sell in offices around the city.

After racking her brains for new fundraising ideas, the marketing client manager decided she would auction off a date with herself.

She said: “I started thinking ‘what could I do that no one else could do?’ “I think it is going to be really good fun. I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’m a very chatty person and I love meeting new people so I just hope it is someone nice. I wanted this to be in The Argus because I want it to be someone from Brighton.

“I’m easy going, laid-back and I talk to everyone. It should be fun.”

The winner will get to take Alex out on March 22 to enjoy The Sussex Yeoman pub’s award winning Sunday roast – which has been kindly donated by the owners of the Guildford Road boozer.

They will then enjoy a comedy show at Komedia in Gardener Street, again provided free of charge.

The charity is one close to Alex’s heart and later in the year she plans to head out to India for an 11-week project with them.

Money raised through the auction will help the charity’s projects in providing clean water and sanitation in the developing world.

She said: “Clean water is the most important issue to me.

“I was attracted to Raleigh because I prefer a pro-active, hands-on approach.

“They are a really great charity.”
