Green councillors will be joining campaigners in support of trying to save the city's children's centres.

The march will commence at 3.30pm on New Road, Brighton before making its way to Hove Town Hall for 4.15pm where Budget Council commences at 4.30pm.

The Save Our Children's Centres Campaign was set up by sisters Leila Erin-Jenkins and Felicity Erin-Robinson to highlight proposed cuts as a result of Government austerity measures.

They said " We are very happy to have the support of Green councillors and one independent, who will be accompanying us on our protest tomorrow afternoon.

"These councillors fully understand the devastating effect these cuts will have and as such have taken a strong anti-cuts position, which is the only way to protect children's centres in the long term.

"Brighton Children's Centres Campaign is very grateful to these courageous councillors for standing up for what is morally right and fighting back against the government's intended destruction of our vital public services."

The Argus will be also on the march as part of our Save Our Centres campaign.

The National Audit Office has reported that one in six councils are not expected to deliver within budget this year, and that more than half of all councils are at risk of financial failure within the next five years due to the severity of the cuts.

Councillor Ruth Buckley said “Brighton & Hove residents should know that the city’s two Conservative MPs Simon Kirby and Mike Weatherley both voted to reduce funding to local councils by 25%.

"It is because of their actions and those of their colleagues that the city is facing such a huge funding crisis.”
