POSTIES across the county are facing voluntary redundancies at Royal Mail offices.

The company told The Argus today Sussex postmen could be losing their jobs as they continue with a "transformation and modernisation" programme.

Reportedly postmen in Brighton, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and Hassocks have all been sent letters informing them of the plans.

A spokeswoman for Royal Mail stressed there would be a "small number" of redundancies.

She said: “Royal Mail is facing letter volume decline and competition across the UK. This means that the business is continuing with its transformation and modernisation programme and needs to be as efficient as possible.

"We are looking for a small number of redundancies across the region, whilst maintaining our ability to continue to deliver a high quality of service to our customers. These redundancies are completely voluntary and agreed with our trade unions.”
