BRIGHTON College’s Under-15s have already set a new record by becoming the first side from Sussex to reach the semi finals of the Natwest Cup, but they’ve got their sights firmly set on going all the way.

The boys thumped Ivybridge 58-8 at home in the quarter finals last week to set up a scintillating tie with Warwick at the home of Saracens – Allianz Park – on Sunday.

Roger Nicholson, director of sport at the college, was thrilled with his side’s performance, but knows it’s a job half done.

He said: “We’re really excited about it and it’s a great opportunity for them to show off their skills.

“On paper Warwick are the favourites because they’ve been there before and they know what it’s about, having reached this stage for the last couple of years, so they’ve got that experience.”

The quarter final couldn’t have gone better for Brighton College, but Nicholson is not getting too carried away with the result.

He said: “We expected Ivybridge to come at us having done well in the competition.

“They beat Millfield and you’ve got to be a good side to get through to this stage of the competition.

“On another week, it could’ve been a completely different scoreline.

“We got a bit of luck early on and they might have been caught a bit cold having travelled from Devon, and we never looked back.

“The boys played well and took every chance that came their way, but it was just one of those days.”

The boys from Eastern Road will be hoping for one of those days again on Sunday, and will be looking to use their underdog title as an advantage.

Nicholson added: “They have the weight of expectation on their shoulders, so we’re just going to go up and enjoy the occasion.

“That’s not to say we’re just going there to make up the numbers – we want to win this, but we know that they are the ones to beat.

“We’ll respect them, but we’ll be going out there to beat them.”

The squad is expected to stick to the formula that has seen them progress into becoming one of the top four teams in the country, but being an extra-special match day, there will be an extra-special edge to the preparation.

Nicholson said: “It’ll be business as usual this week and the boys are really focused.

“I think they’re enjoying the attention, but we’re going to meet early on Sunday and go for a walk down to the beach.

“We’re going to get out onto the pier and have a little think about what it means to be a Brightonian and then we’ll all get on the bus together before heading up there.”

The game kicks off at 5pm and supporters’ buses will be provided from Brighton College for everyone who would like to attend.
