CHARITIES are enjoying a record-breaking year for a fundraising event.

The Santa Bus toured Brighton and Hove in the run-up to Christmas in aid of The Argus Appeal in addition to the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Donations rose to more than £13,000 and this was matched by Lloyds Banking Group, bringing the final total to £26,107.40.

The Argus Appeal supports good causes across Sussex and the Hove-based hospice helps people with terminal illnesses and their families.

Esme Slater, of Lloyds Banking Group, said the organisation had supported the Santa Bus for many years and exceeded expectations in fundraising this year.

She said: “This was only made possible by the staff from Lloyds, who volunteered by helping on the bus. They deserve a massive thank you. We are proud to have been able to raise such a large sum of money which we know will make a huge difference for an amazing charity.”
