THESE brownies should go down like hot cakes – literally.

The Chilli-Shop at the Open Market in London Road, Brighton, has launched what it describes as an exclusive first with its chocolate brownies made with chilli.

According to its creators, the gluten free brownie is extremely moist to act as an antidote to the one million Scoville Heat Unit chilli powder mixed inside.

This results in a one-minute delay before the heat “kicks in”.

The shop teamed up with high- quality bakery A Taste of Dreams in Glynde to create what it claims to be the world’s hottest packaged chocolate brownie.

Shop owner Frank Jay released the brownie as a “hot gift” for Valentine’s Day but he said it would make a great gift, no matter the occasion.

He added that he was considering creating a hot Easter egg, but was open to other suggestions.

He said: “What is the alternative to buying flowers, chocolates or jewellery, especially for a man? For £2 you can give a shockingly and surprisingly delicious Death Brownie to spice up your love life.

“Chocolate is well known as an aphrodisiac and chilli creates happy endorphins, so the combination of the two works really well.

“We think you should warn your partner how hot these are, as you could be on your third mouthful before you realise, and possibly avoid kissing them for 20 minutes after eating – unless it’s for an ex!”

The Chilli-Shop opened in the Open Market last year, moving from Brighton Marina.

Mr Jay said: “Our Christmas sales were amazing, showing that a small independent shop offering alternative and humorous edible gifts goes down well with the people of Brighton.”

Some of the best-selling items include Chilli Shower gel, Chilli chocolate and the 50 Shades Of Pain chilli hampers.
