An artist who creates masterpieces with wool and knitting needles has seen her popularity go through the roof after appearing on BBC’s The One Show.

Kate Jenkins, from Brighton, specialises in creating extraordinary designs with knitting and crochet.

Working from her Kemp Town studio, she has built up a steady and loyal following.

However, following an appearance on BBC’s The One Show, her popularity has gone through the roof with hundreds flooding to her website.

The call to appear on the flagship programme came out of the blue.

She said: “I’ve never been on television before and this was for a live show with virtually no time to prepare. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my sister Helen and friend Jenny who drove me to the London studio.”

She said she could not have anticipated the reaction she received as a result of the show,.

She said: “I’ve sold lots of things on the back of the show and I had 600 extra hits on my website by the time I got home that evening.”

During the show she explained what she did and showed off some of her designs.

She specialises in everyday scenes and in particular images of food and well-known brands of food such as Lyle’s Golden Syrup and Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

Ms Jenkins also took the opportunity of being on TV to talk about her upcoming exhibition, Kate’s Plaice.

It will be one of several art exhibitions at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Alexandra Palace, London, between October 7 and 11.

It then moves to Dublin between November 12 and 15.

She has worked for 20 years in knitwear design and eight years from her studio in Kemp Town.

Her work is now exhibited all over the world.

Her work is currently on display at Cameron Contemporary Gallery, Second Avenue, Hove. It will later be on sale at The Affordable Art Fair in Battersea, March 12 to 15.

She will also open up her Arundel Place studio for this year’s Brighton Artists Open Houses festival in May.
