DOZENS of babies were given a relaxing time in a bid to help a mother live to see her two daughters grow up.

Forty babies were all miraculously calm and quiet for the Mass Baby Massage event held to raise money to fund pioneering treatment for Brighton mother Sam Beaven, who is battling cancer.

Lindsey Cockram, who took her four month old son Robin for his first massage, said: “It sounds awful everything Sam is going through so it’s really great that we have been able to raise so much money through just one event.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever taken Robin to anything like that and he seemed to really enjoy it.”

Baby massage instructor Lucy Johns organised the event to help her friend Sam – who had been to her baby massage classes – and managed to raise £2,300.

Sam was diagnosed with cervical cancer while pregnant with her second daughter Daisy, now one.

The cancer has now spread and pioneering treatment only available in Mexico is her best hope of seeing Daisy and six-year-old Bracken grow up.

Friend Wendy Campling, who is helping co-ordinate the fundraising campaign, said: “Sam is now in Mexico starting pioneering treatment (hypothermia treatment and cutting edge intravenous immune therapies).

"Although it’s gruelling and Sam is still poorly she is making progress and we believe this treatment will be successful – it’s been hugely successful for other cancer patients.

“We still have a long way to go with our fundraising. We had no choice but to send Sam abroad as soon as we had some monies as her condition was deteriorating.

“Sam needs the full eight weeks if she’s going to beat this terrible cancer and watch Bracken and Daisy grow up.”
