A charity that supports male victims of sexual abuse is welcoming visitors to its next event.

Mankind, based in Hove, is running the event at the Friends Meeting House in Ship Street, Brighton, tomorrow (Wednesday March 25).

Charity boss Martyn Sullivan said: “The event is part of our Community Squared project, focusing on the unique barriers men face in disclosing sexual abuse.

“The evening is an opportunity for the general public to tell us what sort of resources they require in order to better understand the issue of men who have experienced sexual abuse.

“We’ve seen a huge rise in people coming forward – an increase of 40% since the Jimmy Savile news broke. This shows that abuse is more common than we thought.

"Government statistics suggest 1 in 9 men will have been affected by sexual abuse or assault at some time in their life – that’s 18,000 men in Brighton and Hove alone.”

The event runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. For more information visit www.mankindcounselling.org.uk
