MUDDY items recovered from a canal could have been stolen from homes in Sussex, police believe.

A Nike sports bag, camera, jewellery boxes and an inscribed case were recovered from Yalding Canal in Kent in January.

Today (March 30), Sussex Police released pictures of the items in an effort to trace their owners.

Investigator Rebecca Doherty said: "Although these items do not appear to be of high value, they could be used to link the offender to burglaries so we need the public to tell us if they recognise anything that belongs to them."

The case bears the inscription 'To Ken from Rose, Keith and Sharon 15-3-61'.

All of the items have been uploaded to the Op Smart section of the force website, viewable at http://www.sussex.police.uk/whats-happening/op-smart-are-any-of-these-recovered-items-yours.
