Around 200 excited people of all ages have gathered outside the Theatre Royal Brighton in readiness for the visit for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Many clutching flowers, they were being entertained by a bicycle ballet, which will also entertain Her Majesty later this morning.
Madeline Hobbs, seven, from Hove, said: "I am hoping to speak to her but I'm not sure what I'm going to say yet.
"I have been practising my courtesy but my friend Alice is wearing trousers so she is going to have to bow."
Madeline was clutching had a bunch of flowers to give to the Queen.
Edwina Smith, 82, of Percival Terrace, Brighton, spoke to the Queen the last time she was in the city.
She said: "I was lucky to speak to her. I'm very excited to be here. She is lovely."
