Police have closed the B2140 Worthing Road east of Station Road, East Preston, following a collision between a car and a bike.
The cyclist, a man in his 20s has suffered serious injuries and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance has been called in. The car driver, a woman, was in shock.
The collision occurred just before 7am at the junction of Worthing Road with Copse View.
The casualty was airlifted to Southampton General hospital where he has been detained for treatment.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Tessa.
