George Osborne has been making a pizza at a restaurant chain in Hove.
The Conservative minister was at Pizza Express to launch new employment pledge by firm to create 2500 jobs over next five years.
The pledge includes a new apprenticeship in every store.
Tory candidate Graham Cox joined the Chancellor at the visit.
Mr Osborne told staff he had been coming to Pizza Express since a child and it was a regular Sunday lunch growing up.
The Chancellor arrived by car - he had been due to arrive in the city by train - but was forced to change his plans following severe delays on the Brighton main line.
