FOUR lovable pooches who have lived in a shelter for years are searching for dog lovers to finally give them a home.

Herbie, Dixie, Rusty and Mac have spent a combined eight and a half years at the Dogs Trust re-homing centre in Shoreham.

Their longer than average stay is through no fault of their own, they are just yet to win the hearts of their perfect family.

They have worked with the centre’s training and behaviour advisors, growing in confidence each day with staff hoping they will find the ‘furrytail endings’ they deserve.

Tracey Rae, rehoming centre manager, said: “The fantastic four have made so many friends at the re-homing centre over the years but we would love to see them finally find their yappy-ever-after in loving new homes.

“They are wonderful dogs who are best suited to adult-only homes where they can continue their training and enjoy plenty of exercise.

“Dogs Trust never puts a healthy dog to sleep and we know there is the perfect home out there for each and every one of the homeless hounds we care for. “We are thankful that we can provide training and behavioural support to help our dogs become better equipped to thrive in a home environment.

“Hopefully, for our fantastic four, that forever home is just around the corner but we will be here for however long that takes.”

For information on any of the dogs call 0300 303 0292 or visit the centre in Brighton Road, Shoreham.

Four-legged friends waiting for their forever owners

  • Herbie, a five-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a lovely boy with a big personality. He is looking for an adult-only home and could live with another four-legged-friend. Herbie is shy and likes to take his time getting to know people so he will need his new owner to visit him at the centre to build his confidence.
  • Dixie, a five-year-old Labrador Cross is a sociable girl who loves spending time with her favourite people. She is best suited to a quiet, adult-only home where she can spend her days enjoying long country walks. This loveable girl would like to get to know her new owners and build up a bond with them before embarking on the journey to a new home.
  • Rusty, an 18-month-old Terrier Cross is a typical Terrier who likes to be out and about getting muddy. This busy boy is looking for an active owner who would enjoy taking him for plenty of walks in the countryside. Rusty may be able to live with another dog and would like a home with a garden so he can go outside and explore to his heart’s content.
  • Mac, a three-year-old Border Collie is an active chap who loves to spend time walking in the woods so a home in a rural location is a must. He is looking for an adult-only home with a garden. Potential owners will need to visit Mac a few times to get to know him and must be willing to continue his training. He would like to be the only pet in the home.
