OWNERS will change the name of their new market after their first failed the spelling test.

The opening of the Brighton Laines Market off Trafalgar Street just before Christmas last year caused a bit of a stir for its confusion between North Laine and Brighton Lanes.

Now owner Paul Lewis has announced that from now on the venue will be Trafalgar Arches.

Owners revealed on social media last week that they had been considering a number of different names and had suggested they were likely to change to Brighton Station Market.

But following further consultation with resident groups, they have now plumped for Trafalgar Arches.

The market’s Twitter feed this morning announced that old signs would be coming down and replaced as soon as possible.

Organisers added that they hoped that the dispute over the name would not distract from their primary aim as a “base for independent stallholders to thrive”.
