A 50-year-old woman has been banned from the roads for three years after she was found slumped over the steering wheel of her car.

A police patrol found Johanna Dennett sitting in the driver's seat of her Ford Fiesta with the engine running in Albany Villas, Hove, at 2.10pm on 18 June.

Officers could smell alcohol on her breath and there were a number of bottles of alcohol in her car but the 50-year-old refused to be breathalysed at the police station.

Dennett, of Harbour Way, Shoreham, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis when she appeared at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court on 16 April.

She was banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay a £600 fine, £600 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

Dennett had previously served a ban for drink-driving imposed in 2012.

A month-long campaign was run in June as part of Operation Dragonfly, the force's crackdown on drink and drug drivers.

Of the 119 people to have been charged as part of the campaign, 111 have been convicted of offences so far. The remaining eight are still being dealt with by the courts.
